A block of wutong ready for cutting into qins

Guqin bodies are made by hollowing out a thick board for the top and gluing a thinner board to it for the bottom.  Various woods are used for both the top and the bottom: Paulownia is the most used for the top (as it is for most Asian instruments), and catalpa is the wood of choice for the bottom. However, many other woods have been used from antiquity to the present, including pine, fir, cedar, poplar, and other woods.

Once the body is completed, the feet and the soundposts are added.

A "ceremonial cap" and "dragon's gum" (the nut) are added at the nut end

The bridge is inserted and shaped, and feet are added.

After finishing and adjusting (a story in itself), we finally can enjoy our work.
